Be an e-Waste Hero: Recycle Old Electronics
Safely dispose of your old computer, TV, or mobile phone.
Take this Challenge!
E-Waste includes all obsolete or outdated electrical or electronic devices commonly used in offices, homes, and by people on the go, including computers, televisions, mobile phones, printers, and PDAs, to name a few. Consider contacting your local electronics recycler, consumer electronics manufacturer or retailer, or local wireless carrier to safely discard old electronics.
The global technology revolution continues to fuel an e-Waste emergency, as electronic lifecycles are shortened by society's demands for newer generations of tomorrow's technologies. According to global industry reports1, the e-Waste crisis will worsen over the next several years until 2015, when volume will peak at 73 million metric tons. However, hope is on the horizon, as forecasts show that global volumes will decline in 2016 and beyond, as a number of key e-Waste initiatives begin to take effect.
Make an impact today. Take this IEEE Green Your World Challenge, and commit to safely disposing of e-Waste materials. Find a local electronics recycler and eco-consciously discard old electronic devices.
"E-Waste is an e-opportunity as it is an issue of resource conservation, as many electronics contain valuable, re-usable raw assets. However, if improperly discarded, these electronics can pose a serious threat to the environment from spreading toxic materials to placing an immense burden on solid waste management systems worldwide and premature disposal contributes to global warming. According to the US EPA reusing two computers is equal to taking a car off the road. Be responsible now and recycle now."
