Step into the Light: Replace Your Incandescent Light Bulbs to Save Electricity

Replace traditional incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) or Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights.

Take this Challenge!

I am from

I commit to replacing my lightbulbs with CFLs!

Make the commitment to swap out your conventional incandescent light bulbs for more environmentally-friendly options, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) or Light Emitting Diode (LED) light bulbs.

A compact fluorescent light bulb uses 70-75 percent less electricity1 and gives off 90-95 percent less heat2 than its predecessor, the incandescent bulb. Additionally, a good CFL lasts 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb, which equates to millions of tons less pollution. If every household replaced just three 60-watt incandescent bulbs with CFLs, the pollution savings would be equivalent to taking 3.5 million cars off the road3! Since these energy-saving bulbs use a fraction of the electricity and don't burn as hot as incandescent bulbs, they lower heating and cooling bills as well.

Take this IEEE Green Your World Challenge, and replace traditional light bulbs with CFLs or LED bulbs today.

"CFL and LED lights use only a fraction of the energy of traditional incandescent bulbs and last several times longer, saving not only money but also millions of pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into our atmosphere. CFL bulbs contain mercury, so be sure to dispose of them properly. LED lights contain no toxic materials, making them safer for the environment."
